Meet Dr. David Gibson.
Author, U.S. Navy veteran, entrepreneur, educator, and business development leader. A career shaped by people, relationships, and the opportunities we create together.
Built on experience, grounded in people.
My career has taken me from seven years of service in the U.S. Navy to building a business of my own and working with companies across a range of technical industries. Those experiences may look different on paper, but they taught me much the same thing: you accomplish more when you understand people, earn their trust, and follow through on what you say you'll do.
Before moving into business development, I worked in telecommunications and owned a hot rod shop in San Diego. Both taught me the value of listening to customers, solving real problems, and building a reputation that lasts longer than any single transaction. I carried those lessons into my work at MoTeC USA, where I help develop opportunities across motorsport, OEM, commercial, and defense markets. Some of the best relationships in this business take years to turn into something tangible, and I've come to appreciate that process.
That same interest in people led me to study organizational leadership. My doctoral research examines leadership communication during workplace transitions, particularly how employees understand and respond to change. The more time I've spent working with organizations, the more I've seen how much clear communication, trust, and consistency matter when the path forward isn't obvious.
Why I write.
I started writing because I wanted to put some of the lessons I've learned into words that other people could actually use. Business Development Is Not Sales makes the case that growth begins long before a sale, with relationships, market understanding, and the willingness to create opportunities that don't yet exist. The Premium Choice builds on another lesson: competing on price is rarely a substitute for becoming more valuable to your customers. I don't believe business ideas need to be complicated to be useful. I want readers to come away with something they can put to work.
